A small but spread out village on the B4058, in the middle of the triangle between Thornbury, Yate and Wotton-under-Edge. The village website includes information on events and local organisations, as well as a local history archive.

The old quarry to the north of the village is an important location for fossil finds, and nowadays is used as a diving centre.

The Avon Cycleway also passes through the village, heading west to Thornbury through Abbotside, and east to Wickwar along Cowship Lane.
